CAMBO: Combinatorial Auctions using Matrix Bids with Order
نویسندگان
چکیده
Since combinational auctions allow bidders to bid on any combination of goods, bid data can be of exponential size. To combat this problem, restrictions have been proposed limiting the number of bundles a bidder is allowed to bid on (as in FCC Auction #31). We describe a new combinatorial auction format that restricts bidders to submit a fixed number of “matrix bids with order”. The advantage of this approach is that it provides bidders a mechanism to compactly express bids on every possible bundle. We describe many different types of preferences that can be modeled using matrix bids and show that matrix bids are quite flexible, supporting additive, subadditive, and superadditive preferences simultaneously. We model the NP-hard winner determination problem for CAMBO as a polynomiallysized integer program, and discuss computational techniques for solving this problem. Our results suggest that CAMBO is an easy to use format. Further, the winner determination can be rapidly achieved for at least 50 goods, indicating that this model may be well suited for practical implementation.

Winner Determination in Combinatorial Auctions using Hybrid Ant Colony Optimization and Multi-Neighborhood Local Search
A combinatorial auction is an auction where the bidders have the choice to bid on bundles of items. The WDP in combinatorial auctions is the problem of finding winning bids that maximize the auctioneer’s revenue under the constraint that each item can be allocated to at most one bidder. The WDP is known as an NP-hard problem with practical applications like electronic commerce, production manag...
متن کاملAn Optimization Framework for Combining the Petroleum Replenishment Problem with the Optimal Bidding in Combinatorial Auctions
We address in this paper a periodic petroleum station replenishment problem (PPSRP) that aims to plan the delivery of petroleum products to a set of geographically dispatched stations. It is assumed that each station is characterized by its weekly demand and by its frequency of service. The main objective of the delivery process is to minimize the total travelled distance by the vailable trucks...
متن کاملThe effect of false-name bids in combinatorial auctions: new fraud in internet auctions
We examine the effect of false-name bids on combinatorial auction protocols. Falsename bids are bids submitted by a single bidder using multiple identifiers such as multiple e-mail addresses. The obtained results are summarized as follows: 1) The Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism, which is strategy-proof and Pareto efficient when there exists no false-name bids, is not false-name-proof, 2) ...
متن کاملSolving Combinatorial Auctions Using Stochastic Local Search
Combinatorial auctions (CAs) have emerged as an important model in economics and show promise as a useful tool for tackling resource allocation in AI. Unfortunately, winner determination for CAs is NP-hard and recent algorithms have difficulty with problems involving goods and bids beyond the hundreds. We apply a new stochastic local search algorithm, Casanova, to this problem, and demonstrate ...
